Thompson tell-all
Spent a night this week at Peter Freed and Tony Cohen’s new boutique hotel, The Thompson Toronto, which promises to be happening h.q. The full saga of my adventures will appear Saturday, July 10 in the Star’s lovely Living section. Meanwhile, some impressions..
This wacked-out 3d piece spans one wall of the lobby bar.
On the opposite wall, a glass work that looks like splattered liquid hangs ominously above the concierge’s head.
The Sferra bedlinens (and robes!) were fabulously luxurious, but I sort of hate the idea of reddish stripes on a bed. Shouldn’t beds be soothing and blue?
Nice view, though, no?
Lovely Carrera marble flooring in the bathroom, which is certainly a step up from your typical “boutique”.
Loved Brenda Bent’s installation of crazy Meissen figurines against period pics in the 24-hour diner she designed with her partner Karen Gable (the design team apparently is called Bent and Gable), which is really fun and funky.
Loved the cool mix of trash and flash here too.
Party people posed for snaps of themselves looking like rock stars in front of the LED sign in the lobby at the Virgin America bash.
