Im surprised none of the dog people have said anything yet on the Toronto Star website yet. Anyways, the trend is the city's increasingly gone to the dogs. Cedervale, Wychwood Barns and Hillcrest park ( they get the best view there too and they took over the baseball diamond) are all dog parks and dog owners, put up a huge fuss over this right!

Hi Karen,

I was reading the latest Upper Canadian and was happy to see you referenced by J. Herbert Bond, the editor - he is a big fan of yours. So I looked you up and here you are! - a great website!

I have many antique apothecary bottles, many with the liquids or pills still in them. There are very questionable contents in some of them - I think there are even chocolate covered arsenic pills (to give you a nice pale complexion!). The bottles are quite beautiful, many of which are from the original pharmacy in Galt, Ontario.

All the best Karen!

Holy shit! I think I saw this yacht up close, anchored in Antibes last June. It is a monster! I actually found it obscene.

Hi Karen,

I enjoyed you comments on Kate Middleton and I too have been a "closet royalist" for years! I think she is a breath of fresh air with an amazing sense of style. I will definitely pick up a copy of McLean's to read your piece.

Thank you

I could never go in that store, I would bankrupt myself. Love the J.Crew! Good for them for pushing the merchandising envelope and experimenting with a unique, one-off store design.

At about the same time that you were having your close encounters of the ducky kind, I received a frantic call from my daughter who had dicovered a duck in the basement of my very country home. She was doing her daughterly duty, checking on the house and livestock (one ancient and one middle-aged cat) while I was away onvacation. Once the duck had been liberated (via the storm cellar door) and my very urban girl had finished her rant on my decision to adopt country living, we traced back the last few days of activity at the house in aneffort to discover how and when our intruder had gained access to the cellar. A couple of days before leaving the house, I had begun the annual round of throwing in the winter's furnace wood. The weather was warm and dry and, as I often do over the summer, ihad left the cellar door open to air the rock and earthenfloor space. Ihad run into the village for milk, dropped in on aneighbour and closed the cellar door on mt return. . .

I agree wholeheartedly. The germ-fearing mentality which reigns without contest over society is in fact a disguise for the growing disconnection among people. How we have come to this is completely mind-boggling, but hopefully, like most societal shifts, a semblance of the connectedness we used to know will resurface and stronger than ever.
